Who/What Are We?

Mix Masters UG is a small online record/retail store that sells music, custom t-sirts and other merchandise by independent musicians. We even sell some of our own music.

We're a bunch of musicians just like you who really love music. We're located in sunny Los Angeles, California and we listen to each and every CD we sell before we sell it, so we can help you find other albums and artists you'll like.

We only sell CDs that come directly from the musicians. No distributors. Ever. Musicians send us their CDs, we transfer the songs digitally to our servers and manufacture them when you place an order with us and we pay the musicians directly.

COOL THING:
in a regular record deal or distribution deal, musicians only make $1-$2 per CD, if they ever get paid at all by their label. When selling through Mix Masters UG, musicians make 60% of the retail price per CD, and get paid monthly. In business since November 2004, we hope to eventually become one of the largest online retailers of independent CDs on the web.

HISTORY:
I was recording, mixing, mastering and selling my own CDs back in 2003, making my living by touring with my band and booking recording sessions for my studio when I asked some fellow musicians if they'd like me to sell their CD on the internet also. It was supposed to be a side hustle to supplement my income from studio sessions, gigs and misc. graphic design jobs.

For the first year, Mix Masters UG was just me and Rufus Clay (pictured above). We'd put the day's orders in our buckets (a loving term for our tore up from the floor up raggedy cars) and drive down to the post office. But then friends told other friends, and so on and so on and now our little side hustle has turned into a big business selling CDs from independent artists to people all around the world.

Mix Masters UG Privacy Policy

We NEVER give or sell your personal info to any other company - EVER! (No not even your email address!) Only the musician whose CD you buy will know who you are. If you don't even want the musician to know about you, just say so at the bottom of your order form.

Your credit card info is never stored, and never seen by anyone. We don't store it in your permanent customer info. The card number is erased immediately after the sale, for extra protection. There is nothing of yours here to steal. Yes this means you'll have to type your card number again (unless you have a PayPal® account) when you return, but we hope you appreciate the extra safety and privacy it gives you.

TECH THINGS
Our servers are running Linux, Apache, PHP, and MySQL. We use Apple Macintosh® computers to design and maintain this website. Full 128-bit secure SSL connection protects all of your private information from snooping eyes. Our secure store transactions are handled by PayPal® - a division of Ebay®.

We try to stay HTML 4.0 compliant. No special web browser needed. (I recommend the FireFox and Safari web browsers for their speed and adherence to web standards).

The Mix Masters Underground website (front end) is created and maintained by me - Barry Jackson. The back end for now is handled by Lunar Pages. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a web host.
